Ben Cooley
Research Data Visualization Engineer
Ben Cooley, MS, joined the SOCKS team in August 2024 as a Research Data Visualization Engineer. Ben “builds data visualization tools, products, and stories. With a background in journalism, I view visualization as fundamentally an exercise in data storytelling.” This work explores new ways of seeing and experiencing information, allowing for innovative interactive design and creative coding.
“I’m excited to dive in to all the amazing research happening at UVM and across Vermont and to find new ways of making our data more visual, accessible, and informative," said Ben about his new position.
Ben has a background in journalism, having received a bachelor's degree in the field from Indiana University Indianapolis. He completed his Master of Science in Digital Journalism at the University of London in 2017 and comes to the University of Vermont after having spent time as a Visualization Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, and Creative Technologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.
